Our side of the world is finally beginning to thaw from the wintertime freeze. That means it’s a great time to make the most of the fresh, new season. We love the warm weather and sunshine–and we know you do, too–so we’ve compiled a list of some fun springtime dates for you to enjoy together.

From backyard picnics to national parks, bike rides to folk art festivals, there are plenty of dates you can go on with your sweetheart this spring. Each of these ideas can help you get to know one another better and build a stronger, more connected relationship in the process.

1. Go on a Picnic

Springtime is the perfect time to take a quilt or tablecloth outside and serve a picnic for you and your sweetheart. You can make it as fancy or casual as you’d like–from simple sandwiches and lemonade to carefully-selected, gourmet finger foods and sparkling water. You can set up your picnic spread at one of your homes, or even on a picnic table at the local park.

A picnic is also a great time to share quiet, relaxing activities like reading or playing music. If you enjoy reading the same books, maybe you could take a copy of one of your favorites and read to one another. Or if one (or both) of you is a musician, bring along an instrument or two.

2. Take a Hike Together

If you love the outdoors and you’re feeling adventurous, go on a hike together. Being out in nature together will give you plenty of time to savor one another’s company–and the beautiful spring weather you’ve been longing for after a long winter. Head to your favorite local state or national park to enjoy the landscape, or take a day trip to a park you’ve never explored. If you have a favorite privately-owned nature preserve nearby, this is also an excellent option.

Hiking together will give you plenty of opportunities to engage in deep, meaningful conversation. Share your dreams with one another, tell stories from your childhood, and talk about your hopes for the future. Taking a little time to talk–and listen well–will help you get to know one another on a deeper level.

3. Play Outside!

If you’re feeling restless after the cold weather, you and your date might enjoy playing outside. Pick a sport to play together like tennis or softball, take a run, toss a frisbee, or go watch a game together. If you enjoy biking, hop on your bikes and take a ride around the neighborhood, the park, or downtown.

You could take the idea of “play time” a bit more seriously by hitting the local goofy golf course or going to the playground together. Swing, slide, or climb on the monkey bars–it might seem a little odd, but truly letting loose and having fun like you did when you were a kid can be a fantastic bonding experience with your date.

4. Stop and Smell the Roses

Grass is greener, trees are lush and full, and flowers are blooming this time of year. It’s the perfect time to enjoy a botanical garden or plant a garden of your own together. Take a leisurely stroll or ride through the gardens and take time to savor the sights and smells together.

If you enjoy photography or art, consider taking along a camera or sketchbook. You could work together to photograph your favorite blooms, or draw some of the scenery. (Don’t forget to snap a few photos together, as well!)

5. Go to a Drive-In Movie, Outdoor Concert, or Festival

Drive-in movie theaters open up again when the weather gets warm; this classic date idea might be perfect for you two. If you’re music buffs, consider seeing your favorite band in concert or attending a local concerts in the park series.

With the springtime comes outdoor festivals, too. Most cities host arts and crafts festivals featuring local and out-of-town vendors. You might also enjoy exploring a local storytelling, music, or folk art event.
